In this clip broadcast on ABC News Adelaide on 6 September 2016, ABC Europe Correspondent, Steve Cannanne, speaks with British Home Secretary, Amber Rudd MP and South Australian MP and Muriel Matters Society Secretary, Frances Bedford MP, to discuss the little-known fact that the first woman to speak on the floor of the British House of Commons was a South Australian. In 1908, suffragette Muriel Matters staged a daring protest in the UK Parliament and delivered a speech to members before being ejected. That act has once again been remembered in Westminster.
