Opening of the Centre of Democracy

The Centre of Democracy (CoD) opened for the first time last Wednesday on 24 May 2017. It houses a number of important artefacts relating to the development of democracy in South Australia. From Don Dunstan’s pink shorts to a miniature portrait of Catherine Helen Spence there is plenty to see. Some ephemera from the Muriel Matters Society’s collection also figures in the exhibition, including original postcards of Muriel and the small painting depicting her balloon protest over London. Over the weekend the Society’s Secretary, Frances Bedford MP, spoke about the importance of Muriel’s life at the CoD at an event showcasing some the centre’s objects. The CoD is housed in the Institute Building on the corner of North Terrace and Kintore Avenue. There is disability access and entry via Kintore Avenue. It is open everyday from 10am – 5pm, except public holidays. Members are encouraged to go and see it for themselves! For more details see: http://centreofdemocracy.sa.gov.au/
