On Sunday, 25 March 2018 the Muriel Matters Society Inc. will hold an event called ‘The Suffrage Trilogy’ from noon at the Hetzel Room in the Institute Building, adjacent to the Centre of Democracy (CoD) on North Terrace.
As you may know, the MMS was involved in initiating the very successful ‘A Soapbox for Democracy’, as part of the 2018 Fringe. Our thanks go to all who helped make this happen, especially the members who attended performances to help organise before and after. Produced by the wonderful Joanne Hartstone, in association with the CoD, performers highlighted the achievements of several figures – among them Catherine Helen Spence, Mary Lee and Elizabeth Webb Nicholls.
As the performances were outside, it was not possible to obtain high quality recordings of all these characters. With the 125th Anniversary of Dual Suffrage in SA approaching, it would be good to have them for use throughout 2019. Therefore, we have arranged to have the actresses involved perform on Sunday and you are welcome to attend to be the ‘live’ audience such a ‘soapbox’ would have attracted.
Hope to see you there! An RSVP would help with catering.
