It’s Fringe time in Adelaide! Anyone out and about knows that there is a certain buzz in the city this time of year. Creating some of this excitment is ‘A Soapbox for Democracy’ on North Terrace (held outside of the Institute Building) where you can listen to the views of South Australia’s most famous female activists. Mary Lee, Elizabeth Webb Nicholls, and Catherine Helen Spence are all played by local actors engaging the crowd in the same way they did over a century ago. This year is 125 years since women were granted the dual right to both stand and vote in South Australian elections – what better way to celebrate than by hopping into this time machine!! These FREE performances continue this weekend and are suitable for all age groups.
This event is presented by The Muriel Matters Society Inc. and produced by Joanne Hartstone. Exact dates and times of each performance can be found below or by clicking here.
