The Society is delighted to announce that the Hastings Borough Council offices have been renamed Muriel Matters House! As early as 1908 Muriel agitated in favour of women’s suffrage in the area and ran unsuccessfully as the Labour Candidate for the seat of Hastings at the 1924 election. Muriel lived with her husband there from the 1920s, eventually passing away not too far from her Pelham Crescent home in 1969. The Muriel Matters Society is delighted with the news. Click on the Council’s press release below for all the details of the building’s refurbishment!
